This is a 1976 photo of State Senator Sidney Von Luther, one of the first candidates CORE successfully ran for local office in New York City. He was elected State Senator in 1971, taking over the position from Basil Patterson. HC member Donald Elfe served as Von Luther’s aide.
He also participated in many of Harlem CORE's protests and campaigns, often standing besides chairman like Elaine Parker and Leonard DeChamps.
