Subject

Harlem CORE members

Description

This is a list of new New York CORE members one month after the chapter moved to 125th street. It includes Doris Funnye (aka Doris Innis), Lucy Komisar and Mary Hamilton.
CORE traditionally had two classes of membership. These listed had just been granted 'active member' status. Previously, they were on probationary status as 'associate members'.
To become as active member, one was required to not only pay their initiation fees, participate in at least two action projects and belong to at least one committee. Probationary status would last at least two months. In reality, their was some flexibility with these rules, among others.
Steps were taken to prevent infiltration by undercover police agents, so not just anyone was accepted. One essentially had to put in work and be known to become an active member.

note - 'Joanne Shane' is Joanne Shane Plummer, member of the Executive Committee under Gladys Harrington and one of the main leaders of the Freedom Highways Project.
