Description
This is a copy of Victor Solomon's paper, 'An Independent Board of Education for Harlem' as published in Urban Affairs Review (the September 1968 issue). Solomon was one of the principal architects of Harlem CORE's proposal before the New York State Legislature to create an independent Board of Education for Harlem. This proposal would eventually evolve into the proposal accepted by the 1972 National Black Political Convention to create an all Black Board of Education. CORE would eventually create their own (short lived) community school in the late 1970's in the south Bronx.
