photo of New York CORE's 1963 City Hall sit in (1)
Description
This is a photo of New York CORE's sit-in at City Hall during the summer of 1963. It was part of a larger series of campaigns initiated around the construction industry. At issue was the use of government funds by construction companies that would not hire Blacks and Puerto Ricans.
Seated on the floor against the railing in black sleeveless top is Eva Kerr, one of the leaders of the sit-in. She is on the right side of the woman standing. Seated next to Kerr on the left of the standing woman is CORE member Marion Shore, also in glasses with a light blouse and skirt.
