Subject
Harlem CORE member
Description
This is a 1967 photo of Harlem CORE member Bob Harris (standing) at a CORE Black Power seminar. He is clearly functioning as security for the event. At the time, he was also a New York City police officer (NYPD). This was above board and known by all the other members of Harlem CORE. He joined NYPD while he was a member of Harlem CORE. He was also at different times the treasurer for Harlem CORE, head of fund raising and in charge of Roy Innis' personal security. He left by 1971 when it was suggested during a disagreement he was potentially not to be trusted because of his job as a police officer.
Seated in front of him are authors and panelists (left to right) Larry Neal, William Strickland, Keorapetse Kgositsile.
